Ensure all plant and equipment is in full working order, including movement beepers, and with appropriate log books. Only licensed personnel are authorised to operate plant and equipment. If required, a competent spotter is to be utilised during the operating of any plant & equipment. All personnel to be trained in the correct use of PPE such as high visibility clothing & hard hats.

Contractors are to investigate if any services are located in the vicinity of any excavation works prior to any excavations taking place.

Ensure all excavations are adequately barricaded to prevent even accidental entry to openings. Backfilling openings to be done as soon as possible are works are complete.

Ensure all personnel are trained in correct manual handling techniques. Seek assistance if required when lifting difficult objects.

Ensure all required excavations are ‘shawed’ to prevent collapse. No personnel are to enter into unshawed excavations.

Training in the correct use of shovel & wheelbarrow techniques.

Pipe Work Roughing In.
  • Slips trips & falls.

All tools & equipment to be tested & tagged quarterly prior to use. Training in the correct use of all equipment prior to use.

Metal Pipe Connections, Preparation & Installation.
  • Short or long term health effects from using LPG cylinders, overcome by vapours, rash, allergy, disease & burns.
  • Burns, injuries from sparks explosion & fire when using Oxy Acetylene.
Cylinders should be checked for leaks when received, & again prior to each use. Do not allow any fittings of the equipment to be contaminated with grease or oil under any circumstances. Ensure personnel are adequately trained in the use of such equipment and how to respond to any emergency which may be created. Reserve cylinders are not to be stored in work area. Full training in the use of PPE equipment must be provided for each required task. Only qualified or fully trained & supervised personnel are to use such equipment. A strict No-Smoking policy must be enforced within any kind of vicinity of the equipment, which poses a threat should there be a leak. Gas cylinders must be stored in a well ventilated area away from heat sources, other dangerous substances & protected from accidental impact. A MSDS must accompany such equipment & be readily available to all personnel on site, whilst such equipment is on site.

Gloves to be worn, high visibility vests to be removed prior to using oxy acetylene as vests are highly flammable. Training in the correct use of PPE equipment such as eye protection.

All oxy equipment to be in full and safe working & to have flash-back arrestors fitted.

Appropriate working fire extinguisher to be instantly available for emergencies. Only qualified or fully trained & supervised personnel are to use such equipment.

Pressure Testing of Plumbing Systems.

Ensure work areas are clear of any debris. Safe access is to be used when accessing work areas.

All testing to be carried out by qualified, competent, trained or supervised personnel or. All testing equipment to be in full working order prior to commencement. All site personnel to be made aware of any testing to be carried out and any no-go zones to be barricaded off and clear of any unauthorised personnel.

Training in the correct set up & use of portable ladders. Work to be carried out off a scaffold if required.

All tools & equipment to be tested & tagged quarterly prior to use. Training in the correct use of all equipment prior to use.

Ensure all personnel are trained in correct manual handling techniques. Seek assistance if required for difficult objects.

Ensure a constant supply of adequate ventilation of work areas. Do not allow fuelled equipment to continuously run in the immediate vicinity of work areas. Training personnel in the correct use of all equipment.

Packing Up, Cleaning Up.

Remove work platforms and extra bracing in the reverse order that they were erected. Work from adequately required ladders set up as per training techniques.

Training in the use of PPE such as safety glasses, hearing protection and sunscreen and long sleeve clothing.

Training in the use of PPE such as dust masks.

Ensure driver is aware of personnel on site, use vehicle spotter to aid driver vision.
